What Do You Need?

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.  He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.” – Psalm 23

Have you ever sat in a hospital waiting room, and thought, do they not see I’m in serious need?  Why make me wait so long in this condition?

I have often times sat in some of the most desperate situations, praying to God, waiting, and feeling like a decade has past before anything resembling an answer appears.  I often think, “Does He not see I’m in desperate need?”  But the answer always comes at just the right time.  Sometimes we need to learn patience to wait for the answer, and let God give us the strength to wait.  (Isaiah 40:31)  God will never give us more than we can bear.  (Psalm 55:22) and when the answer comes it’s usually more than we can ever hope for or imagine.  (Ephesians 3:20)

Sometimes all God requires is that we take time to sit, quiet our minds, and refresh our souls and bodies.  Have faith, and leave it with Him.  How wonderful is it to leave the handiwork to someone else.  He loves that one on one communication with us.  It is a relationship after all, and the most important part of any relationship is communication and trust.

My last and final thought for the day is this.  Have you really taken time to ask God specifically for what you want or need?  Often times we become so complacent and on a warpath to take matters into our own hands and fix our problems, that we forget to include God in the equation.  God also cares about our burdens, and also our desires.  He created us with wisdom and the ability to dream.  He also knows what we want before we ask.  (Matthew 6:8)    You do not have, because you do not ask.  (James 4:2)

If you believe that you’ve gotten yourself so far into a mess that God can’t help you, think again.  He is able and willing.  (Ephesians 3:20) He also cares about the desires of your heart.  Commit your plans to the Lord and He will help you succeed.  (Proverbs 16:3)

“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?”  – Matthew 7:9

God will never withhold anything good from those he loves.  So go ahead, and ask for what you want, and expect miracles this year.
