Steps of faith

“Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed.”  – Luke 17:14

I can envision Simon the leper; cast away from all he knew, hiding behind a Rock.  Watching and waiting for Jesus to come heal him from his afflictions.  Jesus came through the village between Galilee and Samaria, which was situated to hold all who were diseased with leprosy.  It was believed back then that if you had disease it was surely because you had sin in your life.

Little did Simon know that the Lord would use such an affliction to show His glory and power to the leaders of that day.   Simon probably lost many friends, but in the end He gained the greatest friend of all – Jesus.    I’m sure all saw the healing of the Lepers, and were amazed and had faith from that day on; however, one important element of this story, is that it wasn’t until the men turned away, to go show themselves to the priests, that they were healed.  The miracle came when they took the first step of faith, regardless of the circumstance they found themselves in.   (Hebrews 11:1)

“As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple.” – Acts 3:2

God knows where you are, just as he knew the man at the gate called beautiful.  He can certainly find, and meet you right where you are; regardless of your circumstance.  But sometimes He just wants to you call out, or reach out in faith.  This man at the gate was perfectly situated for Gods best work, and regardless of how many days he waited at the gate, He never gave up.

“But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.” – Mark 5:36

You may feel it’s too late for you, but God doesn’t operate on our time, he operates on his own time.  Usually to show you that he is always on time and nothing is impossible for him.   We cannot place rules on God.   Jairus was at rock bottom when His daughter became sick and died, he probably had doubt in his heart and felt that it was over.  But because of the testimonies of others (Romans 10:17), He still had a mustard seed of faith. (Matthew 17:20)  Enough to seek out Jesus when all hope seemed lost.  That’s when he received his miracle.

We shouldn’t leave Jesus as our last resort, He should be first in our lives.  If we keep him centerfold everything will always fall into place as it should.   It’s usually when we are on the verge of a miracle, that we neglect to take that small step.    Without faith it is impossible to please God.  (Hebrews 11:6)

For we walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1

In Luke 8:43-48, Jesus healed in response to faith.  A woman so desparate for the touch of Jesus, because she knew in her heart He could heal her, regardless of what doctors told her.

“And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.” – Luke 8:46

In Matthew 14: 28-33, Jesus tested Peter’s faith.

“And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.” – Matthew 14:29

When you ask God for a miracle, the answer is there for the taking.   You just have to take a step of faith and grab it.  God can reach you right where you are; however, sometimes when we ask for things, we ask with little faith.  Like we are testing God.  But when we take a step of faith, it shows God that we are genuinely seeking him, and believing in what we do not see. Then God meets you right where you are.   Sometimes it’s a matter of learning to be still, and wait on the Lord for the answer.  (Psalm 46:10)

“Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.” – Psalm 27:14

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

So this new year be brave, and take steps of faith.  The steps of a man are ordered by the Lord.  (Psalm 37:23)  So, if you pray God’s will, and take steps toward what God has put in your heart, Jesus will go before you, and bring you to victory in any area of your life.

“A journey of a thousand miles, starts with a single step.” – Unknown
